Which Flite eFoil is Right for Me?
Already have a board in mind? Call or text us and we'll walk you through the exact configuration.
Note: If you haven't yet, start with our About eFoils page where we cover how the boards work, first-time expectations on the water, and whether eFoiling is right for you. This page picks up from there.
Who's riding?
Before getting into specs, we usually ask the following: is this primarily for one rider who wants to develop as a foiler, or is it a shared board that different people will get on throughout the summer?
One dedicated rider: The board you choose matters more. You probably want something that grows with your skills across multiple seasons .vs. one you outgrow and wish you'd stepped up from.
Shared across the dock: Stability, ease of entry, and durability become the primary criteria. The goal is a board that a first-timer can get up on without hours of coaching, that handles different body weights and ability levels across a single afternoon.
The boards
Flitescooter — When the goal is everyone flying on day one
Key detail: Handlebars + thumb throttle
The Flitescooter removes the learning curve entirely. Handlebars and a thumb throttle replace the handheld remote - the same intuitive setup as a jet ski or electric scooter. Complete beginners are typically flying within minutes, especially kids.
If you're picturing a Saturday where every person on the dock gets a turn regardless of athletic background or age, this is the best option. The inflatable construction means no dings, no dock scrapes, nothing to worry about when guests are involved.
AIR — Flexibility first, performance second
Key detail: Inflatable, packs down
The AIR is Fliteboard's inflatable traditional board, offering the most volume in the standard lineup at 110 liters. It stores in a bag, fits in a trunk, and launches from any shoreline, dock, or pontoon. No manicured beach required, which covers most of what you'll encounter on our Midwest lakes.
When the board is travels between locations (like up to the cabin), or where multiple people of different skill levels will share it across a season, the AIR's extra volume and forgiving construction make entry easier for everyone.
ICON — The board that earns its reputation
The ICON is what Fliteboard deploys in their certified training schools globally. It is stable enough for a first session and responsive such that experienced riders keep it in rotation. We've seen riders get up for the first time at every age and background. It's a genuinely excellent all-around board.
If deciding between the ICON and the PRO: the ICON has a ceiling. Most riders reach it sooner than they expect and find themselves wishing they'd bought the PRO from the start. If you plan to ride this board for years, read the next section before you decide.
PRO — What we put most of our buyers on
The PRO is our recommendation for most riders who are serious about the long term. Sixty-seven liters, significantly less volume than the ICON, means it's more reactive, precise, and rewarding as your riding develops. It carves properly and has great response.
One of our buyers, a cabin owner on Chisago Lake, came in set on the ICON. We put him on the PRO for his demo. He called back the same evening and went PRO.
The tradeoff is a slightly steeper entry in the first few sessions. But for buyers making a meaningful investment who plan to ride across multiple seasons, that adjustment pays off quickly. Fliteboard is also fully modular and as your riding develops, you change wings, instead of boards. The PRO's lower volume unlocks a wider range of wing configurations as you advance.
If your main use case is a shared board for rotating guests and beginners, the PRO's lower volume makes the first session harder for true first-timers. In that case, we'd often suggest the PRO for yourself alongside an AIR for the dock.
Still deciding between these two? A demo ride on each usually settles it in an afternoon.
ULTRA — For the rider who's already outgrown everything else
Key detail: Carbon only, advanced riders
The ULTRA is Fliteboard's shortest board, purpose-built for riders who want to interact with the water rather than skim over it. Wake riding, freestyle, tight carving. Double concave hull, minimal swing weight, mast positioned back for a surf-style ride. Easily our favorite to jump on when wakeboats are out building waves.
If you're comfortable on the PRO and want to push further, this will be the natural next step.
RACE — For the enthusiasts who already know
Key detail: 34 mph top speed
The world's fastest Fliteboard. Precision-built for flat water competition. If you're asking specifically about the RACE, you already know if it's for you.
Choosing your construction
Applies to the ICON, PRO, and AIR. All three share the same motor, wing, and controller — what you're choosing is how the board feels underfoot and how it holds up over time.
| Build | Weight | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon | Lightest | Riders who want the most responsive feel |
| Fiberglass | Mid | Frequent use, shared riders, durability-first |
| Soft Top 2 | Mid | Families, beginners, comfort over long sessions |
Top speed and range are the same across all three.
Battery and range
Every board ships with the Flitecell Sport (expect 45–90 minutes per charge depending on speed, rider weight, and conditions). If the board will see multiple riders in a single afternoon, ask us about the Flitecell Explore upgrade at the time of purchase. We get many callbacks after the first season from folks looking to squeeze out more riding time.
