About eFoils: What is it?
Electric Hydrofoil Surfboard Guide:
Learn what an efoil is, how electric hydrofoils work, safety, and benefits.

- Rises above water on a hydrofoil wing
- Electric motor + handheld throttle
- Works on lakes and rivers - big or small
The “flying surfboard” powered by an electric motor and hydrofoil wing. Quiet, efficient, and rideable on calm water.

An eFoil (also referred to as an electric hydrofoil, electric surfboard, flying surfboard, hoverboard, etc) is a self-propelled foil board, easily distinguished by four components: a board, mast, and wing, and electric motor.
Powered by a sealed lithium-ion battery and controlled with a handheld remote, eFoils combine hydrodynamics and electric drive for a unique “flying” ride.
What is a Hydrofoil?
A hydrofoil is a wing under the water that produces lift similar to an airplane. As water flows over it, the foil raises the board above the surface.
Components:
- Front wing - generates lift by forcing water underneath
- Stabilizer/rear wing - helps maintain balance and stability by generating downforce, to counteract lift
- Mast - securely connects the wings and motor to the board

Hydrofoil vs eFoil: A Leap in Technology
Similar to a hydrofoil, an eFoil shares the same structural components, with a few additions:
- Motor + propeller
- Battery + electronic speed controller (ESC)
- Wireless remote
This technology allows for a completely self-contained foil board system that can be used in calm conditions: no wind or waves are required for propulsion!

With an eFoil, Safety is Built-in
We frequently hear questions about safety: while all watersports carry some level of risk, Glyde proudly offers Fliteboard eFoils, the industry leaders in safety and product innovation.
The only moving part on the unit is the drivetrain and connected propeller. Your Fliteboard will included a removable prop guard for peace of mind.
Should a rider ever need to bail, the bluetooth remote will automatically disconnect, even if the trigger is still engaged.
As certified instructors, our lesson programming includes detail on how to fall, where to fall, speed and remote handling, and more. We want to make sure you enjoy riding safely and equip guests to do the same!
Finally, a USCGA life jacket and helmet are always recommended. Fly safe!
