Flite & Rider Progression

Most watersports equipment we've used is built for a specific size or type of rider. The Flite design and rider team took a different approach with Series 6: every board in the lineup is part of a single modular platform, which means your mast, wings, batteries, and propulsion system don't become dead weight or collect dust when your riding evolves. Instead, you can swap the board top or wings for an entirely new experience.

There are nine models in Series 6, and the first impression can be overwhelming. The good news? Flite segments the lineup by experience and intention: complete beginners looking for the lowest barrier to entry, all-level riders who want one versatile board to cover everything, confident starters ready to push performance, and expert riders for whom eFoiling has become a craft.

The guide below starts at the most accessible end of the range and works toward the performance peak.

Flitescooter — Simply Step On and Go

Best for: Complete beginners, families, houseboats, yachts and resorts, anyone with zero board sports experience.

Flitescooter is the board Flite built for people who may be apprehensive from the get-go. When we hear comments like "I could never ride that!", we point at the scooter. The design goal was to take what makes eFoiling feel intimidating (balance demands, throttle sensitivity, the height of the foil off the water) and remove as much of it as possible without restricting the fun.

The engineering solution was handlebars. Removable ones, designed to give riders two additional points of contact while they find their footing. Throttle control lives in a thumb lever built right into the bars (like an ebike or electric scooter), so there's no handheld remote to wrestle with. Lean left to turn left. Pull back to rise. Push down to touch down. Riders who have never been on a foil in their lives (young and old) are up and flying within minutes, even with minimal coaching from our team.

Out of the box, Flitescooter runs in Scooter Mode, which limits speed to 15 mph. That ceiling can be raised anytime in the Flite App. Fly Zones let you draw safe riding boundaries on the map before launching, which is useful for families or resort operators who want clear parameters for newer riders. Once someone is ready to ride without the bars, they detach and Flitescooter converts to a standard Fliteboard. The mast, battery, and Flite Jet 2 propulsion system all carry forward.

Note: Flitescooter is compatible with Flitecell Sport and Explore for up to 1.5 hours of ride time, which is more than enough for a full afternoon on the water.

AIR ICON — Flite Quality at a New Price Point

Best for: First-time buyers, families sharing a board, riders who want to get into the Flite ecosystem without flagship pricing.

The AIR lineup brings the same engineering and build quality to a more accessible price point, without any sacrifices. AIR ICON construction is different from ICON with a rigid foam-core platform wrapped in a reinforced inflatable outer section rather than traditional fiberglass or carbon, but performance is great and the board plugs fully into the Series 6 modular ecosystem. This is typically our first recommendation for families or folks who plan to share their setup with new riders. If they bump into the dock, it's forgiving on an AIR board.

At 5'8" and 110 L, AIR ICON is one of the largest boards in the lineup. Greater volume pays off for beginners in earlier planing, more forgiving touchdowns, a wider platform to build confidence on. We see that heavier riders appreciate it too, since the buoyancy does more of the work during those early sessions when technique is still being developed.

As riding improves, the wing setup can be swapped to change how the board handles. AIR ICON ships with the Cruiser 1800, which is deliberately stable and low-drama. Swap toward a smaller wing and the same board starts to feel more alive. Adjustability is what makes the AIR lineup a real investment rather than a starter board to outgrow. Compatible with Flitecell Nano and Sport (Explore is not compatible with the AIR range).

ICON — The Ultimate All-Purpose eFoil

Best for: All experience levels, riders who want one board that handles everything.

Flite calls ICON "the ultimate all-purpose eFoil," and after our years of real-world use across skill levels, and riding styles, that claim has stood strong. This 2026 season, what used to be called just the 'Fliteboard' is now the ICON. The challenge with building an all-rounder is that the manufacturer is trying to satisfy two very different riders at the same time: someone on their first session and someone with a hundred hours on foil.

The 100L volume and 5'8" outline give beginners a stable, early-planing platform that absorbs small mistakes. Pair it with a more aggressive wing and increase the speed, and the same board becomes something an experienced rider genuinely enjoys throwing around. It won't feel like a learner board to someone who knows what they're doing which we find to be an asset.

Series 6 has brought a few refinements forward: ICON now has recessed handles for better ergonomics on and off the water, and a smaller, cleaner lid profile. It's available in three constructions: Fiberglass (the most accessible price point), Carbon (lighter and stiffer), and the new Soft Top 2, which adds a thermoformed EVA foam outer skin around the core. Soft Top 2 is worth considering for shared boards, houseboats or yachts, and anyone launching from docks: the dent-resistant surface handles incidental contact better than a standard hard shell. Compatible with all three Flitecell batteries.

AIR PRO — Step Up Your Riding

Best for: AIR ICON riders ready to progress, lighter riders, anyone wanting more maneuverability out of the AIR platform.

AIR PRO is half a foot shorter and 30L less volume than AIR ICON, which offers less swing weight. As a result, the board responds faster when you shift your weight and carves tighter (but nothing crazy) when you commit to a turn.

The board still uses rigid-inflatable construction, so the portability and durability advantages of the AIR lineup carry over. However, AIR PRO is livelier, more on edge, more responsive to input. It's not an explicit beginner board, but it's also far more forgiving than the solid-shell PRO or ULTRA. For a rider who's found their footing and wants a real challenge without jumping straight to a 67L carbon board, it sits in the right place. Compatible with Flitecell Nano and Sport only, fully integrated into the Series 6 wing and propulsion ecosystem.

PRO — Focused Performance for Intrepid Riders

Best for: Riders with boardsports experience, lighter riders seeking agility, anyone who wants a board they won't outgrow. At Glyde watersports, we tend to recommend the PRO to the majority of our riders for its versatility.

PRO sits at 5'0" and 67L , and Flite's target rider is described as: "intrepid freestyle and lighter weight riders, as well as those with previous boardsports experience." If you've surfed, snowboarded, or wakeboarded in the past, your body already knows how to use edge pressure and weight transfer to control a board. Crucially, the PRO is more responsive to these adjustments.

Riding onto foil on PRO is different from ICON because it requires more engagement/adjustment throughout the session. However, it responds to every weight shift with real directness, handles rough water with control that a larger board can't match, and opens up progressive carving that our advanced riders like. It also has enough volume to take off in chop and rough conditions, as compared to some of the elite boards.

PRO is also the entry point to Flite's conical wing range. The C eFoil propulsion system and conical wings pair with it to unlock a sharper ride character across conditions. Advanced riders can go further still by removing the prop guard with Flite's prop duct removal kit, putting the board into "Pro Mode" for increased responsiveness and efficiency. Available in Fiberglass, Carbon, and Soft Top 2. Compatible with all three Flitecell batteries.

ULTRA L2 / L3 — The Lightest eFoil in the World

Best for: Expert riders, wake chasers, prone, wing foilers and surf foilers crossing into eFoil.

ULTRA L2 and ULTRA L3 are the lightest production eFoils in the world: 39.6 lbs complete with Flitecell Nano. At 4'4" and 49L, there's not a lot of board here to hold you back. Flite recommends it for "seasoned riders who want to push boundaries." It's a specialist tool, and it performs like one. Our L2 has seen a ton of use!

L3 is the more refined of the two, with only tiny modifications from its predecessor. A 2 cm forward mast position settles pitch just slightly, which really isn't critical for our fellow midwest riders. The 46mm fuselage, however, is narrow enough to meaningfully reduce drag and swing weight. An integrated tail kicker provides leverage for deep carves and sharp cutbacks that smaller, lighter boards can execute in a way larger ones can't.

Riders coming from other foil sports (prone or downwind) will appreciate how the board handles. For most other riders, ULTRA L3 is aspirational and a goal to grow toward rather than into. The Flux wing range from FLITELab, developed specifically for ULTRA, delivers a mid-aspect, surf-inspired ride with low stall speed and fast on-demand performance. Compatible with Flitecell Nano and Sport only. All-carbon construction.

ULTRA L2 shares the same platform and core specs. The distinction is that L3 added the integrated tail kicker and the optimized forward mast position, both specifically oriented toward wave and wake riding.

RACE — A New Era of Speed

Best for: Speed-focused riders, competitive foilers, anyone who wants the fastest Fliteboard ever made.

RACE is new to Series 6, and it represents something Fliteboard (and the rest of the industry) hadn't built before: a board designed specifically around top-end speed rather than versatility or wave performance. At 4'10" and 58L, it's compact and low-drag, optimized for flat water racing. Flite says it's the world's fastest Fliteboard, capable of 34 mph, and they're confident enough in that claim to invite a head-to-head race with any competitor. We think the racing stripes do it justice.

RACE ships with Flite Jet 2 (designed with a Mercury Marine impeller), a 31.5" mast, and Flitecell Explore for maximum power delivery. Carbon construction only. This is not a board you share with a friend visiting the lake for the weekend! Catch our Announcement of the 2026 RACE Board for more specifics.

The Flite Progression Path

One of the practical advantages of the Flite platform is that upgrading your board doesn't mean starting over. The mast, propulsion system, wings, and battery you start with are all compatible across the lineup

To sum everything above: we encourage riders with no board sports background to start on Flitescooter  or ICON, building fundamental balance and throttle feel before moving to a different board. Riders with surfing, snowboarding, or wakeboarding experience often skip that tier entirely and go straight to PRO for more agility and dynamic performance, while those chasing wake/wave riding and gliding work toward ULTRA L3. RACE sits at the end of the line for anyone with speed as the primary objective.

If you're uncertain or have any questions, a Glyde eFoil lesson or demo experience will tell you more in two hours on the water than words can. We run sessions across Minnesota and western Wisconsin, and our instructors Dave and Steve can help you figure out which board makes sense before you commit to a purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I've never foiled before. Should I start on Flitescooter or ICON?
A: It depends on your background. No board sports experience at all? Flitescooter is the lower-stress entry point. The handlebars take a lot of the early uncertainty out of the equation. If you've surfed, snowboarded, or ridden a wakeboard, ICON gives you a capable board you won't feel the need to leave anytime soon. Our instructors can help sort this out during a demo session, which is always worth doing before committing to a purchase.

Q: Can I skip straight to PRO without starting on a beginner board?
A: For riders with real boardsports background, often yes. PRO's 67L volume is less forgiving on early takeoffs than ICON, but it's manageable with some instruction, and it means you won't feel the urge to upgrade six months in. A lesson at Glyde is the best way to find out whether PRO is the right call before buying.
